The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have gotten off to a brutal start to the 2026 NFL season, currently sitting at 0-4 after a recent home loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. The Buccaneers played that game without quarterback Baker Mayfield, who was out due to injury, with Jalon Daniels getting the start instead.

Todd Bowles' seat has seemingly heated up significantly amid the disastrous start, and recently, the head coach didn't exactly have the most confident assessment of his team's season.

“Every time we go forward, it seems like we're going backwards. We can't put it together completely. If we get a sack, we get a penalty that puts us back and shoots ourselves in the foot. We've got to be better there,” he said, per Jenna Laine of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.

Indeed, penalties have been a major issue for the Buccaneers so far this season, but it's far from the only culprit for Tampa Bay's disastrous start, as the team is also committing turnovers at an alarming rate and struggling to move the ball down the field on offense, a trend that started well before Mayfield went down with an injury last week against the Green Bay Packers.

While the ineptitude of the NFC South means that the Buccaneers are far from out of the race, it's hard to imagine things having gone any worse for Tampa Bay up to this point in the season, and calls from the fanbase for Bowles' job will only continue if the team continues to struggle moving forward.

The Buccaneers will next hit the field after a short week on Thursday on the road against the Dallas Cowboys, with kickoff set for 8:15 pm ET.
