Anthony Edwards had nothing but praise for LaMelo Ball after the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Miami Heat 131-106 in their season opener Wednesday night at Kaseya Center.

The Timberwolves superstar made a bold declaration about his new backcourt partner, placing Ball above every point guard in the NBA.

“I think he’s the best point guard in the league,” Edwards said, according to Jon Krawczynski.

The statement came after Ball impressed in his regular-season debut for Minnesota, recording 21 points, six assists, two rebounds, and two steals. He also knocked down five 3-pointers.

Edwards delivered an outstanding performance of his own, finishing with 45 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and two steals. He connected on nine shots from beyond the arc as Minnesota cruised to a 25-point victory.

The performance offered an encouraging early glimpse of what the Timberwolves could accomplish with their revamped backcourt.

Ball joined Minnesota following a blockbuster offseason trade from the Charlotte Hornets, giving Edwards another established offensive creator alongside him.

The two guards wasted little time demonstrating their potential together, combining for 66 points against Miami.

Edwards’ latest endorsement also builds on his earlier praise for Ball’s playmaking and their developing chemistry.

While declaring Ball the league’s best point guard remains a matter of opinion, Wednesday’s performance provided Edwards with plenty of reasons for optimism.

For Minnesota, the challenge now becomes maintaining that chemistry throughout the season as opponents adjust to the team’s new offensive weapons.

The impressive opening-night performance also raises expectations for Minnesota, with Edwards and Ball looking to establish themselves as an elite duo.
