It took his teammates by surprise when San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama partied hard for the “first time ever” this past season.

Speaking to GQ, his teammates Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle recalled seeing Wemby let loose after the Spurs beat the Houston Rockets ahead of the All-Star break. Castle described Wembanyama as a “regular-a** 22-year-old,” and he partied like it.

“First time ever, probably,” Harper recalled. “And then we lost to Charlotte the next game. We all learned our lesson.”

While the team had fun after beating the Rockets, was it worth it? The Spurs lost to the Charlotte Hornets, something that became a learning experience for the group.

Wemby led the Spurs to the NBA Finals in his third season in the league. They lost to the New York Knicks in five games, though. Wembanyama averaged 26 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. His best performance came in Game 4, when he scored 32 points. Still, the team has a young nucleus ready to take it to the next level in 2026.

Wembanyama is the Spurs' leader. He played in 64 games during the 2025-26 NBA season, the second-most in his career, and started 55 of them. He averaged 25 points per game and a career-best 11.5 rebounds per game. Additionally, he averaged more than three blocks per game.

The Spurs selected Wembanyama with the first pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. At the time, Wemby had already been playing professional basketball for several years.

In three seasons in the NBA, he has made two All-Star teams and is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year. He has also been named to two All-Defensive First Teams and was named Rookie of the Year in 2024.

The Spurs are hoping to avenge their loss in the NBA Finals this season. They have a young group of stars that could start a new dynasty.
