The Seattle Seahawks have made it clear they are serious about defending their Super Bowl title. After trading for eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson, general manager John Schneider should not be finished adding talent before the NFL trade deadline.
If Seattle wants to give itself the best chance to win consecutive championships, trading for Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert should be its next move.
Seattle has already invested in improving the offensive line, giving the offense another proven veteran who can make an immediate impact. However, the Seahawks could use another reliable pass catcher, and Goedert would give quarterback Sam Darnold another option in the passing game. With Philadelphia struggling and Goedert's future with the franchise uncertain, the Seahawks should explore what it would take to bring him to Seattle.
Dallas Goedert would give Seattle another weapon

Goedert has remained a productive tight end throughout his career, combining receiving ability with experience in high-pressure situations. Through the first seven games of the 2026 season, he has recorded 22 receptions for 228 yards and two touchdowns. Those numbers do not tell the entire story of what he could bring to Seattle, particularly if he were joining an offense with a chance to make another deep postseason run.
The Seahawks need another dependable target who can move the chains and create opportunities over the middle of the field. Goedert can provide that presence, giving Darnold another option when defenses focus on Seattle's Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Seattle already has a promising young tight end in AJ Barner, who could benefit from playing alongside Goedert. Rather than continuing to force Barner into a larger role, the Seahawks could allow him to develop as the second option at the position. Barner would still have opportunities to contribute, while Goedert could handle a larger share of the receiving responsibilities.
The Eagles' struggles could open the door
Philadelphia's disappointing start to the season could create an opportunity for Seattle. The Eagles entered the season with championship expectations, but a 2-5 record has put them in a difficult position. With the trade deadline approaching, the organization may have to consider whether moving veterans for future assets makes more sense than trying to salvage the season.
Goedert has already surfaced in trade speculation, making him a player worth monitoring as the deadline approaches. If the Eagles decide to move on from him, Seattle should be among the teams making a call.
The Seahawks would not necessarily need to surrender a high draft pick to complete a deal. Goedert is approaching free agency, which could limit what Philadelphia can reasonably expect in return. Rather than risk losing him without compensation, the Eagles could use a trade to acquire draft capital while giving Goedert an opportunity to join a contender.

Schneider has shown a willingness to make aggressive moves when he believes they can improve Seattle's chances of competing. The Nelson trade is the latest example, as the Seahawks surrendered future draft capital to acquire an established veteran who can help immediately.
That approach should continue if the right opportunity presents itself. Seattle has a chance to build on its championship success, and standing pat while other contenders strengthen their rosters could leave the team at a disadvantage. Goedert would address a clear opportunity to improve the offense without requiring Seattle to overhaul its personnel.
No trade guarantees another Super Bowl, and Seattle must be careful not to sacrifice too much of its future for a short-term upgrade. Still, Goedert is the type of experienced player who could make an already competitive roster more dangerous.
