Blake Griffin is one of the greatest players in Clippers history. In his era, he brought immense success to the organization. Led by Griffin, Chris Paul, and DeAndre Jordan, the Los Angeles Clippers were one of the NBA's biggest shows and a consistent Western Conference contender, though they never reached the Western Conference Finals or the NBA Finals. But Griffin's tenure with the Clippers ended abruptly when the team traded him to the Detroit Pistons in 2018.
Despite the trade, Griffin told The Athletic that he still has great respect for the Clippers and good relationships with many in the organization.
“I still have great relationships with the Clippers. So many fans, still to this day, that I used to see at games. I see them around town, whatever it is.”
But despite his reverence for the Clippers and the relationships he has with fans and members of the organization, he won't go out of his way to see the team retire his jersey.
“The jersey retirement thing, that’s a fan and an organization decision. I mean, more so an organization decision. I’m not going to go picket outside of Intuit Dome like, ‘Retire 32!’ So, it’s a true honor when people do say that to me. But like I said, that’s not my decision.”
