The Washington Commanders are trying to claw back into the NFC East race as the top of the division flounders, and they took a big step toward doing that on Sunday night. Despite a slow start, the Commanders had too much for the banged-up Eagles team in a 27-10 Week 8 win to get to 2-4-1 on the season.
The Commanders excelled on both sides of the ball in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 14-0 to run away with the victory. But the first half wasn't so kind to Washington, as Dan Quinn's group fell into a 10-0 hole early.
Jayden Daniels wasn't pleased with the start that the Commanders made during one of the biggest games of their season so far. After the game, he put it bluntly how he felt about the way Washington came out of the gates.
“Complete BS,” Daniels said of the start, per Jake Kauderer of the Washington Post.
Daniels still had a very good game against this Eagles defense, which still has a lot of talent despite all of the injuries on the other side of the ball. He finished 16-of-29 with 217 yards and a touchdown, while adding 23 yards on two carries. The Washington defense has shown some signs of life, and the offense got clicking in the second half despite the injury to Terry McLaurin.
Article Continues Below2-4-1 might not seem like the record of a playoff team, but anything can happen in the NFC East. The Eagles are likely out of the race, and the Giants still feel vulnerable at 4-2-1. The Cowboys dropped an inexplicable game against the Cardinals on Sunday to fall to 3-5, putting the Commanders right in the middle of the division race at the halfway point of the season.
Daniels, while he has been banged up a lot over the last two years, is still capable of leading an elite offense. If the Commanders can get hot on that side of the ball, maybe they are the team that will climb to the top of this NFC East race and earn a home playoff game.
