The No. 4 Texas Longhorns pulled off a miraculous comeback win over the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes, earning a 24-23 victory. Not long after the win, Steve Sarkisian couldn't help but call out other programs for scheduling cupcake matchups early in the season.

While talking with media members during his postgame press conference, the 52-year-old head coach boasted in confidence by claiming that scheduling small schools against his Texas team would do nothing for the Longhorns, according to CJ Vogel of On Texas Football. Sarkisian appears to prefer facing off against a tough opponent early, as it gives him and his team a realistic outlook on the season ahead.

“We could be like other teams and play Jones Junior High tonight and win 66–0,” Sarkisian said. “I don't know what that does for us. What I think it did for us tonight is we found out we can (win big games). We've been close, and we've been knocking on the door.

“So, I do think that that's helpful for us,” Sarkisian continued. “That we got an opportunity to play in a game like this before we got into conference play against an elite opponent, and come out on top. Surely, that's helpful for us moving forward from a mentality standpoint.”

Texas scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to get the win over Ohio State. Arch Manning's clutch gene turned on in the final stretch of the contest, helping lead the Longhorns to the big victory. The redshirt junior finished the game with 195 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception while completing 62.1% of his pass attempts.

Steve Sarkisian and his team will move on to Week 3 with a matchup against the UTSA Roadrunners. After that contest, Texas will turn around and face off against the No. 18 Tennessee Volunteers in Week 4.
