Utah football escaped rival BYU 28-20 Saturday, further boosting its College Football Playoff hopes. Quarterback Devon Dampier and his elusiveness sparks a big reason why the Utes are 9-0 and envisioning the postseason.

Dampier, though, dropped an interesting take on the secret behind why he's so slippery on the football field.

“All the tall people try to tackle me like I’m tall,” said the 5-foot-11 quarterback.

Dampier looks nothing like the prototypical passers NFL and even college football powers look for. He looks way shorter than Utah's last top overall pick in legendary quarterback Alex Smith.

But Dampier proves week after week why he's emerged as one of the hardest QBs to game plan against. Utah even turned to him as a receiver too momentarily.

Devon Dampier, are you serious?!

Dampier finished 14-of-26 passing for 177 yards and tossed two touchdowns. He handed the Holy War rival Cougars fits with his legs too, carrying the ball 20 times for 89 yards and crossing the end zone twice there on runs. Dampier slipped by a would-be sack too in epic fashion.

Not a lot of QBs in the country can make both of these plays. Devon Dampier is a magician with his ability to create but he can also make some spicy throws.

He hit some notable NCAA history too, per Sam LeSueur of Yahoo Sports.

“Devon Dampier became the first player in NCAA history to record 150+ passing yards, 25+ receiving yards, two passing touchdowns, and two rushing touchdowns in a single game,” LeSueur posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

Dampier has Utah thinking about a potential fourth undefeated season in program history, and the Utes' first since beating a Nick Saban-led Alabama team in the 2008 Sugar Bowl. And that Utah team hit a program record 13 victories. Utah remains the last undefeated left in the Big 12, while also potentially eliminating BYU from both the conference title and CFP race.
