The Texas Longhorns were looking likely to be without edge rusher Colin Simmons for their upcoming matchup against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Simmons had already been downgraded from questionable to doubtful in an earlier Longhorns injury report.
But as Pete Nakos of On3 shared on X, formerly Twitter, Simmons has officially been ruled out for the big SEC clash.
Simmons suffered a high-ankle sprain in Texas' loss to Florida. He then sat out last week's 34-27 win over Ole Miss. But even after that week off, he still isn't ready to get back onto the field for the Longhorns.
Despite missing Simmons, the Texas defense did a good job of disrupting the Ole Miss offense. They got three interceptions off Trinidad Chambliss, a season-high for the star senior. However, the Texas offense also committed three turnovers of their own.

The Bulldogs' season has quickly gone off the rails since losing Taylor in their loss to Alabama. They were shut out in a 31-0 loss to LSU and were beaten 23-15 by the Oklahoma Sooners, which stretched their losing skid to three games.
Freshman quarterback Parker Puckett has struggled in his two starts, totaling just 279 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Even without their star edge rusher in Simmons, the Longhorns will like their chances of disrupting the Bulldogs' offense amid their recent quarterback woes.
