Texas A&M football head coach Mike Elko is facing the heat following the LSU debacle. Including responding to his handling of quarterback Marcel Reed in that 35-6 loss.

A “bizarre” decision involving Elko and Reed rose as a big topic of discussion Thursday.

ESPN college football insider Adam Rittenberg shared details from a revealing conversation he held with “an industry source” about Elko. Holmon Wiggins taking over as offensive coordinator rose as the major topic behind Reed's struggles.

“The minute they lost Collin [Klein] with that money and coming off of a playoff appearance, they could have gone and gotten essentially who they wanted at OC,” an industry source said. “To promote a guy who's never called it, it's just very bizarre.”

So the effect of losing Collins shows. The Aggies sit at 112th nationally on offense. Wiggins' play-calling has lacked explosive moments too. Texas A&M ranks 102nd during plays of 10 yards or longer.

And Wiggins is coaching one of the nation's more talented dual-threat passers. But the Aggies failed to cross the end zone against a Tigers team still undergoing a coaching change with Lane Kiffin. Yet that loss isn't the only magnifier when it comes to Texas A&M's struggles.

Kentucky bottled this offense to just 21 points in its upset win at College Station. And that Wildcats win catapulted UK into the top 25 conversation, while also placing A&M's College Football Playoffs and SEC title hopes on thinner ice.

Texas A&M sits at 3-1 overall before facing the Arkansas Razorbacks on Oct. 3 at Kyle Field.
