The Houston Texans have moved on from a former national championship-winning linebacker ahead of their Sunday morning matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. According to Jordan Schultz, the Texans have released rookie linebacker Aiden Fisher.

“Sources: The #Texans are releasing rookie LB Aiden Fisher. The 7th-round pick was an All-American last season en route to helping Indiana win a national championship. He will be on waivers.”

Fisher was a key member of Indiana’s defense as the Hoosiers went on a run to win the national championship. He also stayed with Curt Cignetti through his entire college career, starting at James Madison before transferring to Indiana. He finished his career with the Hoosiers compiling 215 total tackles, 95 of them solo, along with 16 tackles for loss for 49 yards, six sacks for 30 yards, two interceptions, seven passes defended, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 28 games played.

His play earned him a seventh-round selection by the Houston Texans with the 243rd pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. But in three games, he struggled to be productive for a Texas team entering week 6 at 1-4. In those three games, he recorded only one solo tackle.

In a post-draft press conference, Fisher detailed a level of hard work and resilience that prepared him for the NFL

“That's kind of the story of my life. Nothing's been given to me easy. I've worked for everything that I've had. I've worked harder than anybody. I put more time in than anybody. Having that transition once already — to go to a new place where I don't know anybody and I have to gain respect, prove why I belong — has helped me a lot. And I'm ready to do it again.” He added: “I have no doubt in my mind I'll be successful at it — to be able to put my head down and be as humble as possible and just hungry to learn, to work, and impact the football team to win some football games.”
