The Houston Texans recently traded with the Arizona Cardinals for young star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. Houston's general manager is now opening up about the trade, and what went down behind the scenes.
According to 95.7 the Fan, the deal was delayed at the request of Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort.
“We followed his lead a little bit,” Texans general manager Nick Caserio said to the radio station.
The Cardinals got a slew of NFL Draft picks in exchange for Harrison Jr. The wide receiver was the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
“Decisions like this are never easy,” Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort said in a statement released by the team. “Ultimately, we have to do what is best for our football team and that will always be the driving factor. We are extremely grateful to Marvin for what he has contributed to our organization and wish him the very best as he moves forward in his career.”
ESPN analyzed why this trade makes sense for the lowly Texans. Houston has a 1-4 record this season.
“The Texans want more playmakers for quarterback C.J. Stroud, who's playing at a high level while going four games with no turnovers. The Texans are going to be a passing offense as their run game has struggled, evident from their 2.9 yard per carry output against the Titans,” ESPN reported.
The Texans quarterback is excited to team up with Harrison Jr.
“He [is] a dynamic playmaker,” Stroud said, per ESPN. “Somebody who runs great routes, someone who can catch really any ball, and I'm just super excited to get with him. I loved him in college. He's probably the hardest worker I've ever been around in my life.”
The Texans are next in action on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Time will tell if Harrison is able to help the struggling Texans.
This season, Harrison Jr. has five receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown.
