Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks has been charged with driving under the influence stemming from his March arrest in Scottsdale, Arizona, as the team begins preparations for the 2026-27 season.
TMZ reported Wednesday that Brooks was formally charged months after police arrested him on suspicion of DUI. The development comes with Phoenix currently holding training camp ahead of the upcoming season.
“Phoenix Suns player Dillon Brooks' legal issues just got worse … he's been charged with driving under the influence … TMZ has learned,” the report stated.
According to TMZ, Scottsdale police pulled Brooks over in March before officers conducted an investigation and arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence. Brooks was then taken to Scottsdale City Jail, where authorities processed him and took a mug shot before releasing him from custody at approximately 3:30 a.m.
At the time of Brooks’ arrest, John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM reported that a source told him the incident was believed to be marijuana-related rather than alcohol-related. Gambadoro reported that Brooks registered a 0 on a portable breathalyzer, indicating no alcohol in his system, and was initially released without being charged.

The Suns acknowledged the new development Wednesday in a statement provided to TMZ by Stacey Mitch, the organization's senior vice president of communications.
“This charge stems from the incident last March. We have addressed the matter with Dillon and have no further comment.”
The March incident was not Brooks’ first reported traffic-related encounter of 2026. TMZ also reported that police pulled him over in January for allegedly driving 85 mph in a 45 mph zone.
Brooks, 30, is entering his second season with Phoenix after joining the organization as part of the historic multi-team trade that sent Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets during the 2025 offseason. He quickly emerged as a central part of the Suns’ revamped identity with his physical defense, scoring and intensity.
The veteran forward averaged a career-high 20.9 points during the 2025-26 regular season, establishing himself as one of Phoenix’s leading offensive options alongside Devin Booker. His first season with the organization was interrupted late in the campaign by a broken hand that sidelined him for an extended stretch.
The latest legal development comes as Brooks and the Suns turn their attention toward training camp and the beginning of the 2026-27 campaign. Phoenix has not announced any additional disciplinary action related to the charge, with the organization indicating it considers the matter addressed internally and declining further comment.
