Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr believes Warriors star Stephen Curry is smart for refusing to force a trade. After winning the 2022 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics in six games, the Warriors have struggled immensely over the past few seasons. Last year, they fell out of the playoff picture after losing to the Suns in the first game. Many believe the Warriors simply don't have the pieces on their roster to contend in this new era of the NBA.
Many stars in Curry's position have forced the issue, pushing their front offices to make splash trades to get talent they can compete alongside. But according to Kerr, players are “terrible GMs.” Encouraging reluctance to not force the hand of the Golden State Warriors front office is smart.
“One of his superpowers is he lets people do their jobs,” Kerr said in an interview with The Ringer's Logan Murdock ahead of the Warriors first game against the Lakers. “So it’s easy to say, why doesn’t Steph push the front office to trade…Well, that’s not who he is. That’s part of what makes him the human being that he is. That’s a great thing, right? Now, again, are there things maybe we could have done better over the last few years? Sure. But Steph knows that’s not his job. And he knows there are repercussions to that if he makes it his job. ”

He trusts Mike. This is a hard thing. It’s not like there’s just one right answer. This is art, this is not science.”
The Lakers beat the Warriors in their home opener, 127-105. Curry finished the game with 23 points and two 3-pointers in 21 minutes of action.
