Sergio Pérez now has two reasons to celebrate at the Mexico City Grand Prix.

One is the fact that his return to a home race comes as he marks 300 Grands Prix on the Formula 1 grid.

Another is the new contract he has in his hand.

Cadillac and Pérez confirmed on Wednesday a new long-term extension, one that will keep him with F1’s newest team until “at least 2029.” According to a statement, the contract “reinforces a shared long-term ambition between the six-time Grand Prix winner from Mexico and the Cadillac Formula 1 Team to build a competitive team at the pinnacle of global motorsport.”

“Joining Cadillac Formula 1 Team from day one was a project I truly believed in, and extending my commitment feels like a natural continuation of this chapter,” said Pérez. “Building a Formula 1 team from the ground up takes time, relentless work and patience, but the progress we are making together is incredibly rewarding. There is still a lot of work ahead of us and I am fully committed for the next three years.

“I want to thank Dan [Towriss], Mark [Reuss], and everyone at TWG Motorsports and General Motors for the opportunity to build on what we have started together. To every member of this special team, at the track, in the U.S., the U.K., and our fans, thank you for your support and trust. I won’t let you down. Let’s keep pushing!”

“On the eve of a special weekend in Mexico City, we’re thrilled to announce that Checo will remain an integral part of Cadillac Formula 1 Team for years to come,” said Towriss, the CEO of Cadillac Formula 1 Team. “Building a competitive team in F1 is a long-term journey, and securing Checo’s talent and leadership gives us the continuity and commitment we need to build on the strong foundation established in our first year. Together, we are focused on the next phase of our journey, pushing the team forward and making progress up the grid.”

Cadillac has yet to score a point during the team’s inaugural campaign, but Pérez crossed the finish line in P10 at the Monaco Grand Prix. A post-race penalty, which dropped him five places, denied the team its first point on the grid.

The news comes as speculation begins to grow around the status of Cadillac’s other driver, Valtteri Bottas. While Bottas was believe to have a deal that continued into 2027, there is growing belief that the team could look elsewhere for next season. Colton Herta is set to participate in an FP1 session for the second-consecutive week, one that could secure the young driver the necessary points to acquire an FIA Super License.

Asked about the team’s lineup during the United States Grand Prix, Team Principal Marcin Budkowski deferred comment, indicating that the FIA Press Conference was not the forum to break any news.

But with Pérez now confirmed for 2027 and beyond, what happens at the other seat?
