The New Orleans Saints fell back into the loss column on Sunday with a tough loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Paris by a score of 16-10. While the Saints' defense held up its end of the bargain in this one, the New Orleans offense was lifeless, turning in its worst game of the season.
In fact, they etched their names in the cellar of NFL ineptitude in the process.
“The Saints could not establish the run game in Paris, averaging just 1.06 yards per rush. QB Tyler Shough was their leading rusher with just 7 yards. The Saints are the first team without a 10-yard rusher in a game since the Bucs in Week 4 of the 2022 season,” reported ESPN Insights on X, formerly Twitter.
It's certainly not a pretty accomplishment for the Saints, who have already been criticized for relying too heavily on quarterback Tyler Shough and not establishing the run this year, which certainly seemed to be the case on Sunday.
Shough finished with nearly 300 yards for his part, but he also tossed just one touchdown on a day when his team needed much more than that.
Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review later reported that “LB Patrick Queen said the Steelers defense has a mindset today of stopping the run and they succeeded at it.”
Article Continues BelowThe Saints now sit at 2-5 on the season, although the fact that they play in the NFC South means that they are nowhere near behind the eight-ball in the playoff race. Still, New Orleans certainly has some things to address in practice this week before their next game.
The Saints will next hit the field on November 8 at home against the Cleveland Browns following a bye week.
