The Buffalo Sabres have injuries to deal with early in the NHL preseason. On Tuesday, Buffalo defenseman Olen Zellweger sustained a concussion during a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Zellweger appeared to suffer the injury when he was hammered by Blue Jackets defenseman Carson Soucy late in the second period of the contest. The 23-year-old Zellweger was trying to control the puck when Soucy checked him hard near the net.

Zellweger has since been placed in concussion protocol, with Sabres head coach, Lindy Ruff, offering no significant update on the blueliner.
“Lindy with no real info yet. Zellweger in concussion protocol as you would figure. Likely from hitting head on the ice. Lindy agreed with notion hit was clean. Samuelsson no info yet. They'll be further evaluating him Wednesday,” Mike Harrington of Buffalo News Sports shared via a social media post on X (formerly Twitter).
As mentioned in Harrington's report, another Buffalo defenseman, Mattias Samuelsson, also suffered an injury during the Blue Jackets game, leaving the contest after trying to block a shot.
