The Ohio State football team lost to Texas on Saturday, after blowing a 20-point lead. An old problem once again reared its head for the Buckeyes. Ohio State missed a key field goal, that would have helped put the game away.

A similar problem occurred for the team during the 2025 Big Ten championship game against Indiana. In both instances, the kicks sailed to the left. A video reel on Instagram showed both of those misses.

Ohio State would lose 24-23 on Saturday to Texas. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Buckeyes had a 20-point lead.

“Today, we really played well for three quarters and didn’t play well enough in the fourth quarter. That’s the bottom line,” Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said postgame, per Cleveland.com. “We stalled on some offensive drives. I felt we had them on the ropes and didn’t finish.

“… Certainly had a chance to kick the field goal to make it a two-score game and didn’t do that. This one hurts.”

During the fourth quarter, a nightmare occurred for Ohio State. Not only did the team miss a field goal, but the defense struggled to contain Texas quarterback Arch Manning. Ohio State also was no longer able to connect with wide receiver Jeremiah Smith on offense.

“All three phases didn’t get it done in the fourth quarter,” Day said.

Texas finally got some revenge on Ohio State Saturday. Ohio State had won two meetings against the Longhorns, in 2024 and 2025. The 2024 win came in the College Football Playoff.

“Beating a team like that is, in essence, it's a win for the season, but I also think it serves as a little bit of a barometer of where we're at as a program this season,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said, per ESPN.

Ohio State next plays Kent State on Saturday, with a chance to get a bounce back win.
