Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold couldn't get much momentum going against the Chicago Bears in Monday's 34-17 Week 8 loss. Chicago's newly acquired star Jeffery Simmons proved to be worth the two first-round picks traded to the Tennessee Titans, as he was in Darnold's face throughout the evening. But it was another example of Darnold struggling, and now former NFL quarterback Russell Wilson has a message for the franchise.
During the latest segment of “Set Hut,” Wilson implored the Seahawks to do something to make life easier for the 29-year-old signal caller. Wilson does not believe Darnold is fully healthy and pinpointed areas of change that could be made to improve Darnold's play moving forward.
“Sam Darnold's not comfortable out there,” Wilson said. “He doesn't look all the way healthy. He's banged up. He's kind of getting up and, kind of every time, he's just kind of battling through it. So, I think what we need to do, with Seattle in particular, is we gotta get healthy again. We gotta get [Darnold's] mindset feeling [like] ripping it and going. Get some easy completions along the way. Just getting the ball moved down the field.”

The nine-year veteran ended the loss to the Bears with 188 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an interception while completing 50.0% of his pass attempts. Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba proved to be the only reliable target for Sam Darnold, as the 24-year-old led the Seahawks in receiving with six receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown on 11 targets.
Seattle will have a chance to get back on track in Week 10. Darnold and the Seahawks are scheduled for their third straight home game against the Arizona Cardinals on November 8.
