Ronald Koeman Jr was visibly emotional during a tribute to his late mother during Telstar's match against AZ Alkmaar.
The Eredivisie clash was paused in the 13th minute for an applause in honour of Bartina Koeman.
Her passing aged 65 was announced on Wednesday following a battle with breast cancer.
Bartina was the wife of former Netherlands captain and manager Ronald Koeman.

She was also Koeman Jr's mother, with the goalkeeper on the pitch for Telstar at the time of the tribute.
He could be seen wiping away tears as her picture was displayed on the big screen inside AZ's AFAS Stadion.
Supporters from both clubs paid tribute during the minute's applause.
Meanwhile, Telstar fans held sparklers aloft as they honoured Bartina's life.
Koeman Jr had joined on with the applause before using his shirt to wipe his eyes as he broke down in tears.
As the minute's applause concluded, he clapped the crowd to thank them for their tributes.
AZ went on to win the match 1-0 thanks to Mexx Meerdink's first half goal.
The result leaves Telstar 13th in the Eredivisie standings after seven matches this season.
However, they are now winless in their last six despite Koeman Jr scoring twice against Cambuur earlier this month, becoming the first goalkeeper in Eredivisie history to score two goals in one match.
The 31-year-old was making his first appearance since his mother's death was announced.
Bartina had been married to Koeman for 41 years prior to her passing, with the couple having three children together.
The former Everton manager stepped down as national team boss following their World Cup exit in order to care for her.
Announcing the tragic news on social media, Koeman wrote: "With deep sorrow, but also with great pride and love, we say goodbye to my wonderful wife, our dearest mom and grandma.âÂÂ
The news also came after Koeman Jr had welcomed the birth of his first child earlier this month.
Bartina was first diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2010, from which she recovered after receiving treatment.
Having recovered, the disease returned in 2018 before she was diagnosed with chronic breast cancer two years ago.
Koeman announced last year, though, that the cancer cells had spread.
