BYU football has suffered its first loss of the season. It was a double-overtime heartbreaker on the road as BYU fell to UCF 39-31. After the loss, BYU dropped from second in the AP Top 25 to eighth. It also dropped them behind Notre Dame, whom BYU defeated just over a week ago.
Now, former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III is speaking out about the rankings on social media.
“There is no way in the Book of Morman that BYU should be ranked behind Notre Dame when they both have 1 loss and BYU beat them head to head,” Griffin posted on X, formerly Twitter.
BYU defeated Notre Dame 28-24, although the ending of the game had some controversy with a second that should have been put back on the clock. BYU then lost the next week to UCF, while Notre Dame was on a bye. Notre Dame dropped from four to five in the AP Poll, while BYU dropped six spots from two to eight. Notre Dame still sits in front of Utah and UCLA, both of whom are undefeated. Meanwhile, BYU is behind both undefeated teams.

Still, they also received an 11th-place and 12th-place vote.
BYU is still one of the top teams in the nation, but needs to rebound this week. They host Arizona State before visiting Utah the next week.
