The Detroit Red Wings are navigating a tough start to the 2026-27 NHL season. They have certainly shown some fight. Alex DeBrincat helped force overtime against the Seattle Kraken in their previous game, for instance. But they are at the bottom of the Atlantic Division at this time.
As they continue their West Coast road trip, the Wings are shaking things up a bit. The Red Wings will be calling up goaltender Michal Postava, according to Grand Rapids Griffins coach Dan Watson.
“Postava will be called up tomorrow. He was called up late… He will be joining the Red Wings on their West Coast trip,” Watson said in a trip shared by the Griffins on social media.
Speculation began about Postava's status before the Griffins played on Wednesday. The Griffins signed goaltender Jamie Phillips to a professional tryout before taking on the Manitoba Moose. Phillips then served as the backup to starting netminder Trey Augustine for this contest.
Article Continues BelowPostava signed with the Red Wings before the 2025-26 campaign. He had played professionally in his native Czechia before joining Detroit. The 24-year-old did not play in the NHL last year. He was incredible in the AHL, though. Postava posted a sparkling .937 save percentage in 2025-26.
It's unknown what corresponding move the Red Wings will make. In any event, it looks like their young netminder will be with the NHL team during its road trip. Perhaps he finds himself making his NHL debut during this stretch, as well. The Red Wings are in action again on Thursday against the Vancouver Canucks.
