Isack Hadjar is back at Red Bull, for the the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and for 2027
Earlier this week, Red Bull confirmed that Isack Hadjar would be back in the RB22 for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, after missing three races due to a wrist injury.
On Wednesday, the team confirmed something else.
Hadjar’s status with Red Bull for the 2027 season.
Red Bull announced an extension of Hadjar’s contract, keeping him with the team and alongside Max Verstappen for the 2027 season.
Confirming the news, team principal Laurent Mekies said that the team was “excited to continue our journey” with the young driver:
We’re very excited to continue our journey with Isack. Since joining us at the start of the year, he has been superb on and off track, especially considering this is only his second Formula 1 season, which made extending his contract an easy decision.
For his part, Hadjar declared that he was “excited about what lies ahead” with the team:
From the moment I signed, I set out to dedicate myself to the team, and with the support of Laurent and everyone in Milton Keynes, I’ve been able to justify the faith they’ve had in me. I’m constantly looking to learn and push myself further every single day, which only makes me more excited about what lies ahead.
Red Bull also confirmed the news with a series of videos on social media, including these featuring the driver. First was a video from the “wrist clinic:”

Red Bull has been trying to solidify the seat next to Verstappen for years. The team seemed to have the right teammate with Sergio Pérez, who helped Verstappen win his first Drivers’ Championship in 2021, and aided the effort to secure Constructors’ Championships in 2022 and 2023. But after initially re-signing Pérez midway through the 2024 season, the team parted ways with the Mexican driver, looking elsewhere to solidify that seat.
That led Red Bull to Liam Lawson, and then Yuki Tsunoda, in 2025.
Hadjar was given his shot for 2026, after a strong debut with Visa Cash App Racing Bulls a year ago, one that included a podium finish at the Dutch Grand Prix. While he missed three races due to the wrist injury, he has gotten up to speed in the new generation machinery, and has finished in the points in all but three of the races he has seen this year.
That includes a podium at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Those results, and the potential for even bigger things down the road, are what Red Bull rewarded today.
