And with the Yankees having an 89-66 record following their 8-4 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks earlier tonight, Tampa Bay only needs one more win against New York in a four-game series beginning on Tuesday to clinch the division crown.

This season has been a huge success already for a Rays franchise that's always operating on a shoestring budget. Just to further show how much the Rays have impressed this year, they have made Tropicana Field a fortress throughout 2026. By grabbing their latest win over the Red Sox, they finish their season at home with 55 wins, which is a franchise record, as pointed out by Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

Considering that the Rays are on the verge of clinching homefield advantage at least through the ALCS, their performances at home throughout the campaign are promising as far as their World Series hopes are concerned.

The Rays have won as a team in 2026, and their team play was in display once again on Sunday against the Red Sox. Their pitching staff, led by starter Griffin Jax, was on point on Sunday outside of a home run they allowed to Trevor Story. On offense, it was Johnny DeLuca and Chandler Simpson who got the job done, driving in two runs each.

The strength of this team lies in not giving players who negatively impact the game too much playing time. Everyone is pitching in to their success, which makes them hard to stop on a nightly basis.

The Rays have made it to the World Series twice in franchise history (2008, 2020), losing on both occasions to big-budget teams (Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers). Perhaps the third time is the charm.
