The Baltimore Ravens suffered another potentially costly blow to their offensive line Sunday night. Starting center Jovaughn Gwyn was carted to the locker room during their Week 3 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys at Maracanã Stadium in Brazil. Gwyn sustained an apparent lower-body injury in the second half, according to The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec. This left Baltimore scrambling to protect Lamar Jackson with Danny Pinter already sidelined.
Gwyn had won the starting center job over veteran Ethan Pocic during the offseason following Tyler Linderbaum’s departure. He provided stability alongside guards John Simpson and Olaivavega Ioane through the opening couple of games. His injury became even more concerning with left tackle Ronnie Stanley already dealing with an aggravated toe injury. Pocic, who had been managing a knee issue, stepped into the center role after Gwyn’s departure. However, he also left the field in the fourth quarter.
The Ravens now face an anxious wait for further medical evaluations. An extended absence for either Gwyn or Pocic would leave Baltimore needing to reshuffle their offensive line. That has already endured significant turnover while trying to keep Jackson upright and create running lanes for Derrick Henry. The timing is particularly problematic as the Ravens prepare to return home following their international trip. That makes Gwyn’s prognosis a major storyline for the team’s immediate future.
Gwyn entered the NFL after Atlanta selected him 225th overall in the 2023 draft. The former South Carolina standout appeared in only two games during his first two seasons before becoming a regular contributor in 2025. He played all 17 games primarily on special teams and in rotational duty. Baltimore signed him to a one-year deal in March 2026. He won the starting center job during training camp, starting the first three games before Sunday’s injury.
