The Toronto Raptors announced on Tuesday morning that All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard will undergo treatment and a rehabilitation program to address ongoing swelling in his left knee. Although medical imaging revealed no acute injury, the Raptors are being cautious with Leonard due to his history with knee injuries and swelling.
As a result of this course of treatment in Toronto, Leonard will miss at least a week's worth of action and will be re-evaluated next Tuesday.
After playing in the first two games of the season, scoring 39 total points and shooting 32.4 percent from the floor, Leonard was held out of action on Sunday in the Raptors' third regular-season game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
This was Leonard's first absence of the 2026-27 season, and the team ruled him out because of an abnormal buildup of excess fluid in his left knee. Upon further testing and medical evaluation, the team deemed it would be best for him to miss at least a week and have this ongoing swelling addressed.
Leonard was traded from the LA Clippers to the Raptors this offseason in exchange for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two unprotected first-round picks, one first-round pick swap, and two second-round picks.
Article Continues BelowUpon having the trade finalized and joining the Raptors, Leonard signed a new two-year, $115 million extension that keeps him under contract in Toronto through the 2028-29 season, where he will own a player option.
This is a developing story that will be updated shortly.
