The Los Angeles Rams' star cornerback Trent McDuffie briefly exited Sunday's 24-9 win over the Los Angeles Chargers after sustaining a back injury. Head coach Sean McVay did not offer a clear diagnosis following the game; his initial reaction indicated that the team had reasons to remain optimistic about the defender's condition.

While speaking to reporters after the game, based on his initial observations, the Rams head coach offered an encouraging assessment of how the cornerback appeared to be feeling.

“He looks like he's feeling OK,” McVay said.

McDuffie went down late in the third quarter after seemingly hurting his back while making a tackle in the backfield. He initially limped off the field and headed to the locker room for further evaluation before eventually making his way back to the sideline.

Following the incident, the cornerback was initially listed as questionable to return. However, his appearance on the sideline later in the game offered some encouragement, as he seemed to be doing better after the injury scare.

McDuffie had already missed Weeks 6 and 7 after suffering a groin injury during practice. Despite carrying a questionable designation heading into the matchup against the Chargers, he managed to return to action and contribute to the Rams' defensive effort.

Meanwhile, McDuffie was not the only Los Angeles cornerback to suffer an injury during Sunday's game. Jaylen Watson also left the game in the third quarter with a shoulder issue and was subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the matchup.

Fortunately, the injury setbacks did not prevent the Rams from securing a comfortable victory and extending their winning streak to four games. Meanwhile, the Chargers remained winless after falling to 0-7 this season.

The Rams will now have a full week to monitor McDuffie's recovery before traveling to face the Washington Commanders in Week 9.
