The Los Angeles Rams elevated kicker Josh Karty and long snapper Jake McQuaide from the practice squad Saturday ahead of their Week 8 matchup vs. the Los Angeles Chargers.

Both players returned to the organization Wednesday, giving the Rams familiar options as they work through changes and injuries on special teams.

Starting long snapper Joe Cardona is doubtful with an ankle injury suffered during last week’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Coach Sean McVay indicated Friday that McQuaide would handle snapping duties if Cardona cannot play.

Karty joins a kicking group that already includes Brandon McManus, who remains the primary option for field goals and extra points. His return also gives Los Angeles another potential option on kickoffs.

ESPN’s Sarah Barshop detailed the Rams’ latest roster moves Saturday on X, formerly Twitter, ahead of Sunday’s game at SoFi Stadium.

“The Rams have elevated K Josh Karty and LS Jake McQuaide from the practice squad to the active roster.”

McQuaide brings extensive experience with the franchise. The two-time Pro Bowl selection served as the Rams’ long snapper from 2011 through 2020, then returned during the 2025 season and remained with the team through the postseason.

Karty, a former sixth-round pick out of Stanford in 2024, made 29 of 34 field goals as a rookie. He converted 10 of 15 attempts during the following season before the Rams waived him.

Los Angeles has continued changing kickers this fall. The Rams released Harrison Mevis before signing Blake Grupe, whose season-ending knee injury in his Week 6 debut prompted another adjustment.

McManus converted all five extra-point attempts during last week’s 35-21 win over the Raiders but did not attempt a field goal.

The Rams head into Sunday’s matchup at 3-4, while the Chargers are still seeking their first win at 0-6. Both specialists are eligible to play following their elevations, with Cardona doubtful because of an ankle injury.
