The Dallas Cowboys defense is going to get a little boost for the Week 8 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. In the club's latest batch of roster moves, the team announced that safety P.J. Locke III is finally returning from the IR.

Reports indicate that the 29-year-old is activated from the IR after dealing with a torn plantar fascia in his foot that he sustained in the Cowboys' 37-20 Week 2 win over the Washington Commanders, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network. The franchise also announced that a player is being brought up to the active roster from the practice squad.

“The Cowboys activated S P.J. Locke III from IR to the active roster and elevated TE James Mitchell from the practice squad ahead of tomorrow vs. the Cardinals,” Garafolo reported.

Locke was a key rotational option for the Denver Broncos in the first six years of his career before signing with the Cowboys in free agency. The seven-year veteran's role with Dallas is currently unknown, as the defense has been relying on Markquese Bell and Malik Hooker in the safety positions. Meanwhile, Juanyeh Thomas and Alijah Clark have been stepping in as the immediate backups.

P.J. Locke III appeared in two games (one start) for the Cowboys before going on the IR. Throughout his career, the former undrafted free agent has accumulated 177 combined tackles (112 solo), four sacks, one interception, and five forced fumbles. Only three of his combined tackles (two solo) have come this season in Dallas. But he'll have a chance to build on that on Sunday against the Cardinals.
