Regardless of what happens in the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies series, one fact cannot be argued against: Christopher Sanchez left it all on the mound on Wednesday in Game 2. The Phillies' bullpen is shaky at best, as it blew a lead in Game 1 en route to a 5-3 loss. The Phillies' clear distrust of their bullpen led to interim manager Don Mattingly staying with Sanchez longer than most would have anticipated in Game 2. He even remained in the game to face slugger Matt Olson with the bases loaded in a 2-1 contest. Olson recorded a sacrifice fly and Mattingly finally removed Sanchez after 116 pitches were thrown by the southpaw.

Sanchez ultimately surrendered three earned runs across 6.2 innings of work while striking out six hitters. He did walk five batters and a botched play by Bryce Harper in the outfield didn't help matters. Nevertheless, Sanchez's overall effort was incredibly respectable.

The Phillies' bullpen woes are a real problem and it is difficult to imagine this team making a deep postseason run amid that situation. They aren't out of it as of this story's writing, though. While Sanchez left the game with the Phillies trailing 3-1, Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper hit back-to-back home runs in the following inning to make it a 3-3 game.

Now Philadelphia will need its bullpen to step up and limit Atlanta. Otherwise, the team's season will come to an end on Wednesday. If the relievers can contain the Braves and the Phillies offense is able to score another run, there could be a win-or-go-home Game 3 for both teams on Thursday.
