Texas entered the weekend on a two-game losing streak after falling to both Oklahoma and Florida. Texas rebounded with a 34-27 victory over Ole Miss on Saturday to move to 5-2 on the season.
Now, one college football analyst is supporting the idea of Texas in the College Football Playoff, even if they lose again, as Paul Finebaum said on First Take.
“I think Texas is one of the 12 best teams in the country whether they lose two games or three games, and here's why. And I am going back to the schedule, and I know what they didn't do, but I also know what they did. They beat Ohio State, which may be one of the two best teams in the country, at home. They also won at Tennessee, which inexplicably choked away a victory the other day, which hurts Texas,” Finebaum said. “They still have significant wins, and they have one the other night against Ole Miss, which has been a top-ten team most of the season.”

They beat Ohio State, which is currently ranked second in the AP Poll. They also beat Tennessee, which is ranked 16th, and Ole Miss, which is ranked 12th. The other win is over UTSA. UTSA is in the other receiving votes category, but is 7-1 on the year, and winning the American could put them in a spot to make the CFP.
Texas jumped up the rankings after their win over Ole Miss. The Longhorns will host Mississippi State on Saturday.
