With the New England Patriots preparing ahead of the trade deadline on Tuesday, the fanbase has been wondering if the team will be aggressive in making certain moves to address specific needs. While it remains to be seen who the Patriots target ahead of the trade deadline, the latest intel shows that fans should maybe temper their expectations.

According to New England insider Mike Reiss with ESPN, “firewords aren't expected” when it comes to the Patriots ahead of the trade deadline. One of the reasons that is “near the top of the list” for this being so is that New England is an “unwillingness to sacrifice significant assets,” though Reiss would lay out the “avenues” that the team could take before Tuesday.

“The club already did that in the offseason by trading a 2028 first-round pick and 2027 fifth-rounder for receiver A.J. Brown in June, which was part of an overall aggressive offseason,” Reiss wrote.

“That doesn't mean avenues to bolster the injury-ravaged 2026 Patriots haven't and won't be explored, per sources, but any potential trade is more likely to mirror some of the modest moves from the Bill Belichick era,” Reiss continued. “For example, acquiring outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy and a seventh-round pick at the 2016 deadline in exchange for a sixth-round pick is the type of move that could fit the team's approach, targeting depth at one of the current positions of need.”

Continuing about the Patriots' situation, Reiss notes how the team has about $5 million in cap space with its salary, meaning they “aren't positioned to take on a higher-salaried player. NFL insider Josina Anderson would report that New England is “still monitoring the market for pass rush help-at a bargain.”

“The Patriots are still monitoring the market for pass rush help-at a bargain- by the Trade Deadline next Tuesday, I’m told,” Anderson wrote on X, formerly Twitter, Sunday.

At any rate, it remains to be seen what the Patriots do ahead of Tuesday's NFL trade deadline and whether they make any big or under-the-radar moves to bolster their team.
