Florida Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk acknowledged that the team's power play needs improvement while adjusting to the absences of Aleksander Barkov and Brad Marchand. With both veterans sidelined by injuries, Tkachuk admitted he must take greater responsibility for Florida's offensive struggles.

The Panthers have been forced to reorganize their power-play unit without two experienced forwards. Tkachuk and defenseman Seth Jones have taken on important playmaking responsibilities, requiring adjustments to their usual roles.

“I think just having a five-on-five mindset is the best way to go about that,” Tkachuk said, according to comments shared by reporter Sam Len. He explained that he and Jones must now quarterback the unit from the half-wall and point.

“I have to be way better for him and the rest of the guys out there,” Tkachuk admitted. “New spot, but I have to be better there.”

Tkachuk emphasized the need for a more aggressive shooting mentality rather than repeatedly resetting possessions. He believes getting shots away earlier could prevent opposing penalty killers from settling into their defensive structure.

The Panthers forward also identified a problem with the team's puck movement. Florida has been forced to retreat into its own zone too frequently, creating additional work and reducing the sharpness of its attack.

Despite the difficulties, Tkachuk rejected the suggestions that a shortened training camp contributed to the power-play problems. Instead, he focused on improving execution within the current lineup.

Florida faces an adjustment period, with Barkox also recovering from another leg injury. His absence removes a key offensive contributor and experienced leader.

For Tkachuk, the message was straightforward: injuries have changed responsibilities, but he expects himself to deliver better results.
