The Green Bay Packers may not know it, but they have a Jordan Love problem hiding in plain sight. Their QB is carrying an offense that cannot consistently move the ball on the ground. Tony Pollard could help change that equation. The Tennessee Titans running back has the burst, versatility, and proven production to give Matt LaFleur's offense another dimension. Now, Tennessee's difficult season could create an opportunity for Green Bay to strike. With the trade deadline approaching, general manager Brian Gutekunst should explore a deal that addresses an obvious weakness without sacrificing the Packers' long-term flexibility.
Backfield spark needed

Through seven weeks, the Packers have stumbled their way to a 4-3 record. They have mixed impressive victories with frustrating inconsistency. They opened with a loss to Minnesota, edged the New York Jets, and absorbed a home defeat against Atlanta. That was before recovering with wins over Tampa Bay, Chicago, and Dallas. Their three-game winning streak ended in a painful 20-17 loss to Detroit. In that game, Green Bay had opportunities to take control but failed to finish.
The bigger concern now is the running game. Green Bay averaged fewer than 60 rushing yards per game through its first seven contests. That has left Love and the passing attack with too much responsibility. Josh Jacobs returned against Detroit, but his 36 rushing yards on 11 carries did little to solve the problem. Injuries along the offensive line have added another complication. Jacobs can still be a major contributor, but Green Bay needs more reliable explosiveness and depth as the schedule tightens.
Pry Tony Pollard
Pollard is a logical target. He can contribute as both a runner and receiver. The 29-year-old has 478 rushing yards, averages 4.3 yards per carry, and has scored four rushing touchdowns through seven games in 2026. His latest performance was particularly eye-catching. Pollard rushed for 129 yards and three touchdowns against Cleveland. That demonstrated that he could still take over a game when the blocking and opportunities are there.
The Titans, meanwhile, are 1-6 and facing difficult questions about their direction. If Tennessee decides to prioritize future draft capital, Pollard could become a valuable trade deadline asset. That makes him a potential rental, which should keep the asking price reasonable.
Gutekunst's ideal proposal would be a 2027 fourth-round pick and a conditional 2028 sixth-round pick for Pollard. The later selection could improve to a fifth-rounder if Pollard reaches an agreed-upon rushing or scrimmage-yardage threshold.
For Tennessee, that package would provide future draft flexibility. For the Packers, it would be a measured investment in a player who could make an immediate difference. The key is keeping the offer disciplined. Pollard's production merits consideration. Still, a half-season rental should not cost Green Bay a top-100 selection.
Pollard as missing piece
LaFleur's offense thrives when its running game forces defenses to respect multiple threats. Pollard's acceleration and vision would give Green Bay another way to attack the edges and turn modest openings into chunk gains. He is also comfortable catching passes out of the backfield. That should allow LaFleur to use screens, swings, and option routes to put linebackers in difficult positions.
For Love, a credible ground attack can slow down opposing pass rushers and create more favorable play-action looks. Pollard and Jacobs could form a complementary backfield. Jacobs would handle a substantial share of the workload while Pollard provides a change of pace and additional receiving value.
Article Continues BelowOf course, no running back can fix an offensive line on his own. Green Bay must get healthier up front and improve its blocking consistency. Pollard's arrival would not automatically turn a struggling rushing attack into an elite one. However, his ability to create yards in space could help the Packers survive while their line works through its issues.
Low-risk move

The Packers remain above .500 despite their ground-game struggles. That makes this an opportunity rather than a reason to panic. They just need to address a weakness before it undermines their playoff ambitions.
A fourth-round pick and a conditional late-round sweetener would be a sensible starting point for Pollard. The deal would give Tennessee future assets while giving Green Bay another experienced weapon for the stretch run. If the Titans are ready to look toward 2027, Gutekunst should make the call. Love has enough talent around him to lead a contender. Giving him a more dangerous backfield could help the Packers finally play like one.
