The Edmonton Oilers suffered their second consecutive defeat on Monday night, losing to the Detroit Red Wings at Rogers Place — and they also lost another forward to injury.
Zach Hyman, who has appeared in only six games this season, exited in the second period of the 4-3 shootout loss after taking a hit from Wings defenseman Andreas Englund.
Oilers reporter Jason Gregor indicated late Monday that Hyman could miss at least a week with an apparent head injury.
“Hyman likely out at least a week. As it looked like head/concussion issue,” Gregor wrote.
“Oilers can’t catch a break on injury front.”
Edmonton hasn't yet specified Hyman's injury or a potential recovery timeline. Further clarity could come Tuesday.
The 34-year-old has already missed half of the Oilers' games in 2026-27 while recovering from an upper-body injury. He has one goal in six appearances and recorded two shots in 8:25 of ice time Monday.
The players met near the blue line, where Englund pushed Hyman into the boards. Hyman appeared to hit his head against the glass before grabbing the back of his head and falling to the ice.

The silver lining is that Jason Dickinson, who hasn't played since a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Oct. 13, will return to the lineup Wednesday against the Calgary Flames.
He's managed an assist in three games this season, along with two shots, three hits and three blocks.
Article Continues BelowThe injury bug has hit Edmonton hard in 2026-27, with forwards Mattias Janmark and Matthew Savoie, defensemen Mattias Ekholm and Alec Regula, and goaltenders Frederik Andersen and Devon Levi all currently on the shelf.
Despite the absences, the Oilers have continued racking up points, sitting at 8-2-2 following Monday's shootout loss.
The superstar combination of Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard has led the way, combining for 27 goals and 79 points across 36 player appearances. Edmonton is in first place in the Western Conference and two points behind the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes in the early Presidents' Trophy race.
The Oilers will look to get back in the win column against the Flames in another edition of the Battle of Alberta on Wednesday night, the finale of a five-game homestand.
