Coming off a victory over Duke, North Carolina football once again came up short, suffering 31-30 overtime loss against Syracuse. The narrow loss left head coach Bill Belichick with little to say as his team watched a promising opportunity slip away in the closing stages.
After the game, Belichick offered an honest assessment of North Carolina's loss, admitting that Syracuse managed to make the crucial plays when it mattered most.
“Not too much to say about this one,” Belichick said. “They made a couple more plays than we did today. And it was the difference in the game.”
Belichick also did not hesitate to praise Syracuse, saying the team had once again demonstrated the resilience it had shown in previous games.
“Hard-fought game, just like all of the other ones we've seen Syracuse play, and we just came up a little short,” he added.
Quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. delivered one of his strongest performances of the season despite the disappointing result. He completed 27 of 44 passing attempts for a season-high 271 yards and two touchdowns.
Tight end Jelani Thurman also played an important role in the Tar Heels' passing attack, recording seven receptions for 77 yards. Meanwhile, Jaylen McGill led North Carolina's rushing efforts with 62 yards on 12 carries.
