Michigan made a change at quarterback this week, starting Tommy Carr over Bryce Underwood. It did not change much offensively, as the team managed just six points, and Michigan lost to Indiana in overtime, 13-6.
Now, head coach Kyle Whittingham is trying to put a positive spin on the loss, per Brad Galli of The Brad Galli Show.
“If that's the number 6 team in the country, then we're a pretty good football team, even though we're sitting here at 4-3,” Whittingham said.
Article Continues BelowMichigan dropped to 4-3 on the year, but nearly every game has been right. Only once this year has a Michigan game been decided by more than a score. Meanwhile, they have lost their three games by a combined 14 points. The defense has been great this year for Michigan. They are second in the nation in opponent yards per game, while sitting 12th against the run and sixth against the pass. Further, they allow just 15.7 points per game, which is 11th in the nation.
Still, the offense has been dreadful. Michigan is 108th in points per game and 124th in yards per game. Meanwhile, they are 125th in passing yards per game this year. Carr had some positives in his first career start. He completed 20 of 32 passes for 167 yards. He also had the longest run of the game for Michigan, with a 15-yard scamper. Still, he had an interception and lost a fumble. Both of those turnovers directly led to points for Indiana, both times field goals. Carr had chances to tie the game in overtime, but could not do it in the loss.
