Shawn Gibbs and North Carolina A&T picked up their first win of the season in a big way. The previously winless Aggies pulled off a 22-18 victory over nationally ranked FCS opponent Rhode Island. North Carolina A&T joined three other teams in beating nationally ranked FCS opponents. Northern Iowa beat No. 3-ranked Illinois State, Cornell beat No. 17 Yale, and Colgate beat No. 23 Villanova. Meanwhile, Rhode Island was ranked No. 19 entering the matchup,

North Carolina A&T jumped out to a 15-3 lead at the end of the first half after an explosive second quarter in which they scored 12 points. Kevin White ran in for a touchdown early in the second quarter to put A&T up 9-0, and Asher Holland added six more points on field goals. But Rhode Island would not go away easily.

They scored 8 points in the third quarter, courtesy of a touchdown by Gabe Winowich and a successful 2-point conversion via an Alex McClelland touchdown pass to get back on the board and get 11 points. They then converted the only score of the fourth quarter on a Terrence Campbell 13-yard run to get within four points, as the score was 22-18. But ultimately, North Carolina A&T was able to hold serve at home and eke out their first win of the season and their first victory in the CAA this season.

North Carolina A&T now gears up to face off against Bryant University, who enters the game 3-1 after a 21-14 win over Princeton. Campbell beat Hampton University, the only other HBCU in the CAA alongside the Aggies, 31-3 last week.
