Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni acknowledged his team's problems following Monday's 38-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. However, he rejected suggestions that a lack of effort contributed to the Eagles' fifth consecutive defeat.
Philadelphia dropped to 2-5 after another disappointing performance, prompting questions about the team's commitment. Sirianni insisted that his review of the game revealed different concerns.
“I did not see an effort issue on Monday night,” Sirianni said Wednesday, according to Dave Zangaro's report on X.
“Obviously, it was other things, which I'm sure you guys will ask me about. There were other things. But effort in no way, shape, or form was an issue there.”
The Eagles surrendered 416 total yards, including 204 on the ground. Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott threw three touchdowns, while Javonte Williams rushed for 155 yards.
Philadelphia's defense also failed to record a sack, quarterback hit, or tackle loss.
Sirianni explained that coaches evaluate players through three categories: assignment, alignment, and effort. Those standards apply during practices and games, allowing the staff to identify individual mistakes.
Although he acknowledged that players cannot deliver perfect effort on every snap, Sirianni refused to blame the loss on their commitment.
The defeat also extended a troubling trend for Philadelphia under Sirianni.

Sirianni understands why questions are mounting during Philadelphia's losing streak. Nevertheless, he maintains that the coaching staff must evaluate performances objectively rather than react emotionally to results.
The Eagles now face pressure to correct their execution before Sunday's divisional matchup against the Washington Commanders.
