New York Basketball pointed out that Shamet and the Knicks just ended a 53-year championship drought while the Brewers won the franchise's first World Series in their 57-year history.
Both were crucial to their team's success. Shamet caught fire in the Eastern Conference Finals, making almost 92% of his three-pointers, an NBA record, and Ashby pitched 18 consecutive scoreless innings in relief, which is an MLB record.
The two have known each other for years dating back to a Park Hill High School football game in suburban Kansas City. They went their separate ways in college, with Shamet attending Wichita State in Kansas and Ashby staying in Missouri to go to Crowder College. Ashby was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 2017 MLB Draft in the 25th round but elected to stay in school.
The following year, he was picked by the Brewers in the fourth round of the MLB Draft. He was promoted to the major leagues in June 2021.
