There are many fantasy decisions to be made for Week 2. Included in that mix is the right approach to the waiver wire. But there are also injury concerns, and here is the NFL fantasy football injury report, including Brock Bowers, Kyler Murray, and more.
It has already been a very disappointing start to the season for managers of Bowers and Murray. Bowers was expected to be the best fantasy tight end in the NFL. MurrayâÂÂs draft status suggested he could be a later-round difference-maker. But they combined for only a handful of snaps in Week 1.
LetâÂÂs take a look at this weekâÂÂs rundown.
QB Kyler Murray, Vikings (concussion)
What exactly do the Vikings have in Murray? He went 3 of 5 for 18 yards and a terrible interception before getting hurt. The thing with concussions is that players canâÂÂt be rushed back.
Murray got through a limited practice on Wednesday, according to NBC Sports.
âÂÂWeâÂÂll see how he responds and continue to rely on the medical folks in that regard,â Vikings head coach Kevin OâÂÂConnell said. âÂÂThe good thing is the amount of reps he got from obviously competing and then being named the starter. HeâÂÂs got a lot of reps logged away. But, yeah, really weâÂÂre taking it kind of period-by-period as far as the plan we have. But we want to be monitoring how heâÂÂs doing from a standpoint of that limited participation.
âÂÂItâÂÂs a little bit more of a vague thing at the quarterback position, just because theyâÂÂre in red jerseys anyway all the way up until game time. So weâÂÂll kind of just deal with it as it comes to us.âÂÂ
QB Sam Darnold, Seahawks (hip)
Darnold wonâÂÂt play in Week 2, but the belief remains that this wonâÂÂt be a long-term absence. Still, it could linger, according to ESPN.
âÂÂAccording to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, multiple sources are bracing for Darnold to miss roughly four weeks from the time of his injury but are hoping he can come back sooner,â Brady Henderson wrote. âÂÂOne source told Fowler that Darnold returning for the 49ers game in Week 5 feels like a possibility. Another source estimated that he'll be sidelined for three to four weeks and added that the quarterback is moving around much better in recent days.âÂÂ
Joe Burrow, CIN (back)
ThereâÂÂs a defiant take by Burrow about whether he would miss the game against the Texans just for precautionary reasons, according to ESPN.
âÂÂThat's ridiculous,â Burrow said. âÂÂI think every game is important. IâÂÂll do what it takes to be out there. If I'm not having surgery, I'll be out there.âÂÂ
Fantasy managers of Burrow have to like that attitude. Things seem to be in a good place for him to play.
Tua Tagovailoa, Falcons (oblique)
Even if heâÂÂs ready to go, it doesnâÂÂt sound like the Falcons have committed to putting him back on the field, according to Fox News.
âÂÂOf course, ideal world, I think everybody, every team, you'd love to know who's playing at every position,â Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski said. âÂÂThat's a no-brainer. I get that part. But we're going to be flexible and make sure that we're giving all of our guys the ability to go play and play well.âÂÂ
And Tagovailoa's fate may have been sealed when he didn't practice Thursday while Michael Penix Jr. and Cooper Rush were full participants.
QB Michael Penix Jr., Falcons (knee)
ItâÂÂs a process, but Penix believes heâÂÂs working toward a return, according to ajc.com.
âÂÂIâÂÂm close,â Penix said. âÂÂI know IâÂÂve been saying that, but thereâÂÂs just a couple technical things that I want to hit. Some goals that I have that I want to achieve before I do stuff out on that field. But I do feel really good, and weâÂÂre taking strides each and every day.âÂÂ
His return to full practice Thursday puts him trending in the right direction.
RB TreVeyon Henderson, Patriots (ankle)
Things are looking up for Henderson to make his 2026 debut, according to a post on X by Mike Reiss.
âÂÂRB TreVeyon Henderson: âÂÂIâÂÂm ready to go.' âÂÂ
This is tremendous good news for Henderson and the Patriots.ÃÂ Receiver A.J. Brown is out with an injury, which means Henderson's explosiveness is more critical to have on the field. Plus, he can serve as a threat in the passing game. Getting him back doesn't solve the Brown situation, but it helps.
Alvin Kamara, Saints (knee)
Getting on the field looks like a good possibility for Kamara this week. He practiced fully on Wednesday, according to ESPN.
âÂÂI think it was just a matter of time on task, getting a full week's work,â Saints head coach Kellen Moore said. âÂÂI (thought) he did an amazing job to put himself in a position last week to practice really well. And so he's in a great place.âÂÂ
The Saints need Kamara, according to quarterback Tyler Shough.
âÂÂHe's a difference-maker at every position, to be honest,â Shough said. âÂÂHis physicality, his speed, his one-cut ability, his presence, just in the huddle, just from just all that stuff. He's got the experience, and then they have to respect all that stuff.
Jordan Mason, Vikings (thumb)
Mason had surgery and wonâÂÂt play again until at least mid-October. He was placed on injured reserve. Fortunately, the Vikings have a capable runner in Aaron Jones, who can take on an expanded role â even at the age of 31. Rookie Demond Claiborne could also get his first NFL touches.
WR Nico Collins, Texans (hamstring)
This isnâÂÂt a great situation as Collins appeared on the injury report Wednesday. He had a limited appearance, which provides some hope. But this situation bears watching.
Fortunately, it doesnâÂÂt appear to be a serious injury, according to a post on X by Adam Schefter.
âÂÂTexans WR Nico Collins injured his hamstring at WednesdayâÂÂs practice, met with doctors after, and they âÂÂdonâÂÂt believe itâÂÂs serious,â per source. Yet Collinsâ status for SundayâÂÂs game vs. the Bengals is in jeopardy.âÂÂ
WR Zay Flowers, Ravens (hamstring)
Flowers didnâÂÂt make it to the practice field on Wednesday or Thursday. There is growing concern he could miss Week 2. And that may be best, according to The Athletic.
âÂÂRealistically, a week of inactivity is probably the best thing for Flowers,â Andy Behrens wrote. âÂÂHamstring injuries are notoriously stubborn.âÂÂ
Article Continues BelowWR Ja'Kobi Lane, Ravens (wrist)
It doesnâÂÂt help the Flowers situation that Lane is expected to miss multiple weeks because of a fractured wrist in the season opener. Still, the team hopes to have him back soon, according to ESPN.
âÂÂ[Lane] definitely has a really good chance coming back here pretty quick,â Ravens coach Jesse Minter said. âÂÂI know he'll be chomping at the bit to get back.âÂÂ
With the two Ravens injuries, Rashod Bateman is a good fantasy play this week.
WR Ladd McConkey, Chargers (rib)
Missing practice on Wednesday, McConkey faces a battle to get on the field in Week 2. Quarterback Justin Herbert wants him back soon, according to ESPN.
âÂÂLadd's a really good football player,â quarterback Justin Herbert said. âÂÂWe're really glad to have him, and he made a ton of plays today, so I'm hoping he feels better.âÂÂ
DonâÂÂt sleep on Treâ Harris for fantasy if McConkey canâÂÂt go.
WR Brian Thomas Jr., Jaguars (shoulder)
Good news for the Jaguars, as it looks like Thomas will be able to go against the Broncos. And he still has a chance to be a fantasy bounce-back this season.
WR Alec Pierce, Colts (hand/wrist)
Getting in a full practice Wednesday, Pierce should be able to avoid an injury designation for this weekend.
But whether he should play in fantasy against the Chiefs is questionable, according to Sports Illustrated.
âÂÂI am still unsure whether I want to trust Pierce this week,â Thomas Carelli wrote. âÂÂMy projections list Pierce at a 16% yard share in Week 2 and the WR59. The real knot in the start-sit debate lies with his opponent, the Kansas City Chiefs. In Week 1, the Chiefs were rated the 4th-best in coverage based on EPA/Pass (-0.449).
WR Omar Cooper Jr., Jets (ankle)
DonâÂÂt look for Cooper to get back this week. But he likely avoided a long-term absence, according to NFL.com.
âÂÂAn MRI revealed positive news, per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. Cooper is week to week,â the NFL.com staff wrote. âÂÂWith the hope that he returns within the next four weeks, Rapoport reported.âÂÂ
WR Jalen McMillan, Buccaneers (knee)
A full participant Wednesday and Thursday, McMillan should be good to go for Sunday. ThatâÂÂs good news for quarterback Baker Mayfield, according to buccaneers.com.
âÂÂHe brings a different dynamic, being able to separate in coverage, a different level of juice,â Mayfield said. âÂÂAnd also somebody that when he makes plays you can feel the energy on the sideline. You can feel it from him. And he elevates the standard.âÂÂ
WR Michael Pittman Jr., Steelers (foot)
Pittman missed the open portion of Thursday's practice. That's not a good sign this late in the week.
TE Brock Bowers, Raiders (knee)
Missing practice Wednesday is more disappointing news for Bowers. He played only 12 games last season, and seems headed for a short season again this year.
Of course, if he makes it back this week, he could change that narrative. And there's hope, according to NBC Sports.
âÂÂHead coach Klint Kubiak told reporters in his Wednesday press conference that Bowers (knee) is not yet ready to practice,â Myles Simmons wrote. âÂÂBut Kubiak said heâÂÂs hopeful that Bowers will be able to return this week.âÂÂ
TE Chig Okonkwo, Commanders (hamstring)
It wasnâÂÂt a great debut with his new team. And now heâÂÂs injured. The Commanders are holding out hope that Okonkwo will be able to play against the Cowboys.
