Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh AllenâÂÂs dominant performance against the Detroit Lions has ESPN analyst Kevin Clark calling the former MVP the âÂÂbest player on the planet.âÂÂ
Allen accounted for five touchdowns as Buffalo defeated Detroit 41-31 on Thursday Night Football in the first regular-season game at the Billsâ new Highmark Stadium. The victory pushed Buffalo to 2-0 behind another explosive performance from its franchise quarterback.
Clark explained during SportsCenterâÂÂs postgame coverage why he believes Allen has become nearly impossible for opposing defenses to contain.
âÂÂI hate to correct Dan Campbell but at the end of the half he said, âÂÂitâÂÂs the little bleep thatâÂÂs killing us.â It was the big bleep. It was the most obvious thing in the world, which is that Josh Allen is the best player on the planet right now.âÂÂ

Clark pointed to DetroitâÂÂs aggressive approach and AllenâÂÂs ability to consistently find an answer regardless of what the Lions attempted defensively.
âÂÂWhat do you do? YouâÂÂre hovering around a 60% blitz rate for the entire game. What do you do if youâÂÂre Josh Allen? You give it to Dalton Kincaid, or you run it, or you do any number of things. Perfect passer rating when targeting the intermediate part of the field, didnâÂÂt throw an incompletion there all night. ItâÂÂs hard to say this but heâÂÂs the indefensible quarterback right now. What do you do if youâÂÂre the Lionsâ defense? Yes, you canâÂÂt hold up at the back end. Yes, you only really have one pass rusher to speak of. This roster is getting better, better, and better but itâÂÂs a literal pick your poison situation. IâÂÂm not sure I've seen anything like it in a long time.âÂÂ
Allen completed 20 of 31 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns without an interception, finishing with a 121.4 passer rating. He also rushed 14 times for 69 yards and two touchdowns.
Through two games, Allen has completed 66.7% of his passes for 582 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. He has added 92 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Allen became the first quarterback in NFL history to record at least five passing touchdowns and four rushing scores through his teamâÂÂs first two games.
Buffalo has scored 77 points during its 2-0 start.
The Bills will have an extended break before hosting the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.
