The New Orleans Pelicans are figuring things out. They have won four consecutive games to claw their way back to the .500 mark after a disappointing start to the new campaign, and they should have confidence in their chances of mounting a push for the playoffs if they maintain this level of play.

It is not a coincidence at all that the Pelicans have started stringing together some wins once they promoted Herb Jones back to the starting lineup. Jones came off the bench for the first four games of the season, but an absence from Dejounte Murray due to the birth of his third child opened up the opportunity for the 28-year-old wing to show his worth.

But at full strength, Jones could find himself being lost in the shuffle yet again, which could open up the possibility that the Pelicans trade him away anyway.

“The Pelicans say that they want to keep him, but they've been open to hearing offers for him. They have not shut down those trade offers. They're very opportunistic about hearing what teams have to offer. And to me, I think that this is finally the trade deadline that Herb Jones' gonna get dealt,” ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel said on the latest episode of the Clutch Scoops show.

The Pelicans are looking to extract a high price in any Jones trade, and for good reason. He remains one of the premier defenders in the NBA, and he's easy to fit into any contending team that needs more depth on the wings.

But New Orleans will be looking to win, and they have to be seeing that Jones is playing a huge part in their recent success. Considering how many players on this Pelicans roster needs touches, Jones becomes all the more valuable as a low-usage offensive player who can be elite on the defensive end.

This will all depend on whether or not the Pelicans are within playoff contention at the trade deadline. If they are, one would think that they will be holding on to Jones and his team-friendly contract.
