The Denver Nuggets did not heavily retool the roster in the offseason, mainly due to financial constraints. Their only notable additions were DeMar DeRozan and Marvin Bagley III, whom the Nuggets both signed in free agency.

There has been a concern about Denver's lack of depth following the departures of Peyton Watson, Tim Hardaway Jr., Jonas Valanciunas, and Bruce Brown.

But Denver could acquire another piece, as it has shown interest in Cam Whitmore, according to The Stein Line's Marc Stein.

“The Nuggets, I'm told, have emerged as a team to watch in pursuit of Cam Whitmore,” wrote Stein on his Substack.

“Whitmore, selected 20th overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, was recently waived by Cleveland after the Cavaliers acquired him as part of the five-team megatrade that landed Peyton Watson in Northeast Ohio.”

The five-team deal also involved the Washington Wizards, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Charlotte Hornets.

Last season, Whitmore averaged 9.2 points, 45.6% shooting, and 2.8 rebounds in 21 games for the Wizards. He showed promise in his rookie year with the Houston Rockets, putting up 12.3 points in 47 games. He, however, has since tapered off.

The 22-year-old wingman out of Villanova has untapped potential as a prototypical 3-and-D player, and playing with a genius like Nikola Jokic could help unlock it.

Whitmore is owed $5.4 million in the upcoming season.

The arrival of Watson, who signed a four-year, $88 million contract, hard-capped the Cavaliers at the first apron, forcing them to release Whitmore. Moreover, Cleveland extended James Harden to a three-year, $96.5 million deal.
