A veteran forward has suddenly become a sought-after talent as the Miami Heat, the New York Knicks, the Orlando Magic, and the Toronto Raptors are reportedly eyeing him in free agency.

The Minnesota Timberwolves recently waived John Konchar after acquiring him in a trade with the Utah Jazz. He went to the Timberwolves along with Cody Williams in exchange for Josh Green and cash.

Now, five teams are purportedly targeting the eight-year forward, according to The Stein Line's Marc Stein.

“John Konchar is one of the top free agents available and has drawn interest, league sources say, from Miami, New York, Orlando, and Toronto,” wrote Stein on his Substack.

“The Raptors sit just $2.3 million under the first apron with a total of only 13 guaranteed contracts after reacquiring (Kawhi) Leonard. The other three teams do have just enough apron flexibility to add one more player. Both Florida teams have 14 players on standard contracts, and the Knicks currently have 13.”

The Timberwolves had to waive Konchar after signing Jonathan Kuminga to a two-year, $12.4 million deal, restricting them at the second apron. The 30-year-old Konchar, who went undrafted in 2019, is in the final season of his three-year, $19 million contract.

Among the teams mentioned, he could get an opening with the Knicks, who are rather thin at small forward, with Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, and Tyler Nickel as the only options, although Josh Hart could also fill in.

Konchar split time with the Jazz and the Memphis Grizzlies last season, averaging 4.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.5 steals in 56 games. He averaged 19.9 minutes.
