The NBA is looking to crack down on certain rulebook infractions this year, including push-offs from offensive players to create space. The league recently released a video on the NBA Officials page on X, formerly Twitter, highlighting several examples of plays from this past season that will be deemed offensive fouls moving forward.

One notable omission from the video was Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who is widely considered the most egregious offensive fouler in the game today, frequently using his off-arm fully extended in order to get to his midrange jumper.

Needless to say, fans in the comment section took notice of the absence.

“Call the push off on Shai. I won’t believe it until I see it,” wrote one fan.

“The sga omission is so loud when hes literally the reason this rule exists. they really made a whole video without showing the guy who made them make it,” wrote another.

Other fans noted the omission of New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson, who also frequently uses offensive fouls to create space on offense.

It remains to be seen how consistently this rule will be enforced heading into the new season, or whether star players like SGA or Brunson will continue to get preferential treatment when it comes to the officials swallowing their whistles.

Of course, Gilgeous-Alexander's game goes far beyond just pushing off to create space, but if he were to be called consistently for the infraction, it would be fascinating to see how quickly he would adjust his game to stay within the rules.

In any case, the Thunder are slated to kick off their season on October 20 with a road game vs the San Antonio Spurs.
