The Phoenix Suns are just a few weeks away from kicking off the upcoming 2026-27 NBA season. The Suns are still led by franchise cornerstone Devin Booker, who had a strong year last season, leading the Suns to the playoffs in what many expected would be a rebuilding season.
Recently, it was revealed that Booker would be switching his jersey from number one to number 15 in honor of his father, Melvin Booker, who wore that number during his own playing days.
Now, Booker has spoken on the number change during an appearance at the Suns' media day.
“I just feel like where it all started, it's not a foreign number to me. Even walking around downstairs at one saying it's gonna take some time to get used to. When I look in the mirror, the first pictures I've seen of me wearing it, I feel back at home. It feels like where it first started,” he said, per Hayden Cilley of ClutchPoints on X, formerly Twitter.
Article Continues BelowWhatever number he wears, Booker is sure to get a lot of buckets once again this season, having remained one of the NBA's elite perimeter scorers over the years in Phoenix.
The Suns made some puzzling moves this offseason, most notably giving up a future first-round draft pick in order to bring in Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges, who is viewed by many as more of an empty calories player than a true game-changer on the offensive end of the floor.
Still, the Suns proved themselves to be a resilient bunch last year, defying the odds by turning themselves into one of the top defensive teams out West and making the playoffs despite the previous offseason's departure of Kevin Durant.
They'll look to take another step forward in 2026-27.
