The WNBA will be searching for a new commissioner after this season as Cathy Engelbert recently announced her retirement plans at the end of the year. A comprehensive search will likely take place in the months to come, and while various names have been thrown out there, including current and former players, don’t expect Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier to throw her name in the hat for WNBA commissioner anytime soon, as per Andrew Dukowitz of Zone Coverage.

“Oh no, no no no,” Collier stated jokingly when asked about if there’s any chance of her taking on that role.

The Lynx star also spoke about what she hopes the next WNBA commissioner will bring to the table.

“I think someone that obviously loves the game and wants to grow it, is invested in the players and creates a great relationship with them,” Collier said. “I’m sure that’s what we’re gonna have. So I’m excited to meet the new commissioner, whoever it might be and build on to this future that we’re building for the W.”

While the issue of the new WNBA commissioner won’t be resolved until after the season, the task at hand for Napheesa Collier and the Lynx is preparing for a potential title run. The Lynx currently hold the top spot in the league standings, a full two games ahead of the No. 2 Golden State Valkyries.

Collier’s season debut was delayed due to injury recovery, but she has since returned to the court. The former UConn star has appeared in 12 games thus far at a little over 30 minutes per game. She’s been averaging 18.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.0 blocked shots with splits of 49.1 percent shooting from the field, 46.7 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 86 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
