Florida State has dropped to 3-5 on the season after a third straight loss. This led Florida State to fire Mike Norvell as head coach. With the FSU job officially open, multiple candidates have emerged for who could be the next coach.

One of those coaches mentioned as a potential for Florida State is current Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz. Now, Drinkwitz is addressing the rumors, per PowerMissou.com.

“I'm not a candidate at Florida State. Let's clear that up,” Drinkwitz said.

Drinkwitz got his first chance to be a head coach in 2019 at Appalachian State. He led App State to a Sun Belt Conference title, a New Orleans Bowl berth, and a top 25 ranking. He then took over at Missouri in 2020.

In his time at Missouri, he is 52-31, and the Tigers have been invited to a bowl game every season he has been the coach. Further, he led Missouri to the Cotton Bowl in 2023 and finished the season ranked eighth in the AP Poll. This year, Missouri is 6-2 and will likely be ranked in the first College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, at Florida State, Rick Stockstill has been named the interim coach. He was the head coach of Middle Tennessee from 2006 through 2023. It is unlikely that Stockstill will get the full-time job, but there are plenty of other options on the market. Manny Diaz could be an option. The current Duke head coach and former head coach at Miami is an FSU alum. Jake Dickert, the coach at Wake Forest, has also been linked to the job.

FSU could also decide to bring back a former member of the staff. Kenny Dillingham was once the offensive coordinator for the Seminoles and is the Arizona State head coach. There is also Jimbo Fisher, who won the 2013 national championship at Florida State and currently lives in Tallahassee.
