The St. Louis Cardinals are looking to improve this offseason. They could look to make notable trades or add players in free agency, but the Cardinals are still rebuilding overall despite out-performing expectations during the 2026 campaign. The ball club made important roster announcements on Tuesday that will impact their future, as they re-signed three minor leaguers while a number of other players became minor league free agents, per Cardinals Player Development.

Right-handed pitcher Randel Clemente, left-handed pitcher Josh Fleming and infielder Ramon Mendoza were all re-signed to minor league contracts for the 2027 season.

Meanwhile, right-handed pitcher Jose Davila, right-handed pitcher Tink Hence, right-handed pitcher Bruno Lopez, right-handed pitcher Ryan Murphy, right-handed pitcher Sem Robberse, right-handed pitcher Darlin Saladin, right-handed pitcher Gerardo Salas, left-handed pitcher Zack Thompson, first baseman Bligh Madris and catcher Andy Yerzy are all set to become minor league free agents.

Clemente, 24, pitched to a 5.29 ERA across 43 appearances in Double-A this past season. Fleming, 30, has four games of MLB experience. He hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2021, however. He hasn't pitched in the minor leagues since 2023.

Mendoza, 26, spent 2026 at the Triple-A level, where he hit .291/.380/.437. He added nine home runs and 28 doubles. The infielder is an enticing prospect who could receive an MLB promotion fairly soon if an opportunity presents itself. His 2026 performance suggests he is ready for the next level.

These roster moves won't receive the most attention, but they are notable nonetheless. Mendoza could make an impact with the Cardinals soon while Clemente and Fleming provide crucial pitching depth on the roster.
